SCOUTERS' ACADEMY  NOV 4TH, CONYERS MIDDLE SCHOOL

Welcome Back all Cub Scouts

   From your Pack Leadership

Hello parents and Cub Scouts. We hope you all enjoyed your Summer break.  We certainly did.

Thanks to everyone who attended the summer outings.  We all had a great time.  We learned about swimming safety while earning our swimming belt loop and swimming pins.  Our Webelos got to earn their Aquanaut Activity Badge.

We also visited Zoo Atlanta and participated in the Nightcrawlers program. Ask any scout who attended and they will say it was probably the best thing they did all summer. We walked all around the zoo and got to see many things you would not have been able to see if you just visited the zoo. The best part was probably the 'Night Vision' scopes we used once it got dark. We were served a great breakfast and ended our trip with a Carousel ride and train ride.

We also said good-bye to a fellow scout, Zachary. He moved to Arkansas in early August. But we are thankful that Zane is still hanging around until his new house is ready.

This fall we will resume working on our Achievements and Activity Badges. Remember, you can work on achievements and electives at home as well or on the road.  Some of these are difficult to complete at our den meetings.  Your den leader will help guide you as much as possible.

As always, If you ever need to reach your Cubmaster or den leader, we can be reached as follows:

Earning Your Bobcat Badge

    Hitting the Bobcat Trail

As a reminder, all upcoming Wolves, Bears and Webelos must earn their Bobcat Badge before they can progress to the next rank. If you do not have your Bobcat Badge, please let you Den Leader know right away. To earn the Bobcat Badge, you must complete the following Bobcat tracks:

1.         Learn and say the Cub Scout Promise and complete the Honesty Character Connection.

2.         Say the Law of the Pack. Tell what it means.

3.         Tell what Webelos means.

4.         Show the Cub Scout sign. Tell what it means.

5.         Show the Cub Scout handshake. Tell what it means.

6.         Say the Cub Scout motto.

7.         Give the Cub Scout salute. Tell what it means.

8.         Together, a parent and scout, complete the exercises in the booklet How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse.

More information about each track is found in your Handbook. Parents are encouraged to work with their Cub Scout to help him earn his tracks and sign off on each one as ‘Akela’s OK’. The Den Leader will sign off and record.  Once the Cub Scout has completed his Bobcat Tracks, he will be awarded his Bobcat Badge at the next awards ceremony, which is usually the last Monday of each month.

Good Luck Cub Scouts

    Character Connections

Know – Commit – Practice

Cub Scouting’s Character Connections program helps the Cub Scout to  Know, Commit and Practice  Cub Scouting’s 12 core values.  Throughout the year, the Cub Scout will be asked to complete a Character Connection toward earning an achievement.  Parents or another Akela is asked to work with the Cub Scout in completing these achievements.

Other Important Cub Scout Programs

     Religious Emblems

Most of the major religious organizations in the United States have programs to recognize Cub Scouts who demonstrate faith, observe their creeds or principles, and give service.  While working alongside his religious leader, the Cub Scout can earn his religious emblem. If you are interested in this program, please see your leader.

     BSA Family Program

The purpose of the Cub Scouting’s BSA Family Program is to strengthen families and to encourage family involvement in Scouting. The Cub Scouting’s BSA Family Activity Book is the primary resource for the program.  Each family works through the program independently over a twelve month period.  If you are interested in this program, please see me.

Cub Scouts Academics and Sports Program

The Cub Scouts Academics and Sports Program is a supplemental enrichment program to help boys learn new skills or improve skills they already possess.  Cub Scouts earn belt loops to go on their Cub Scout belt as the skills are learned and signed off by their Akela. In addition, we will be doing activities during the year to earn these belt loops.  If you are interested in more information on what academic areas and sports are applicable, please see me.
